Domestic Water Use

Potable water is becoming a scarce resource. The pressures on the water supply differ among the various regions in the UK with greatest pressure on London and the South-East of England. Reducing the water use in residential buildings is therefore one of the sustainable development priorities. The Code for Sustainable Homes provides credits for water efficiency within the issue WAT 1: Indoor water use. Each of the rated CSH levels also have minimum water efficiency standards associated with them.

The Code for Sustainable Homes credits will be awarded as follows:

  1. 120 l/p/day
  2. 110 l/p/day
  3. 105 l/p/day
  4. 90 l/p/day
  5. 80 l/p/day

Code for Sustainable Homes levels 1 and 2 require the achievement of 1 credit.
Code for Sustainable Homes levels 3 and 4 require the achievement of 3 credits.
Code for Sustainable Homes levels 5 and 6 require the achievement of 5 credits.

The water use for the dwellings is calculated using the Water Efficiency Calculator for New Dwellings.
