From 2010 South Oxfordshire District Council requires that new houses achieve Code for Sustainable Homes level 3. Although there is not a direct policy requirement as such, the South Oxfordshire Design Guide clarifies the meaning of the sustainalbility objectives of the South Oxfordshire Local Plan. Here is an extract of the design guide with identifying the Code for Sustainable Homes requirements:
Design Principles:
- On all new residential development for 4 units and under up to 1 April 2010 a one star Code rating is required. From 1 April 2010 a three star Code rating is required.
- On all new residential development for 5 to 9 units up to 1 April 2010 a two star Code rating is required. From 1 April 2010 a three star Code rating is required.
- On all new residential development for 10 units or more up to 1 April 2010 a three star Code rating is required.
- All applications for new homes are to be accompanied by a pre-assessment document undertaken by a registered assessor.
