The Code for Sustainable Homes contains a category on surface water, which inlcudes two issues: The management of surface water run-off from developments and flood risk. To achieve credits in this category evidence in the form of a Flood Risk Assessment should be provided. We gladly support your Code for Sustainable Homes project with the preparation of a Flood Risk Report.
The detailed requirements are laid down in PPS 25: Planning Policy Strategy 25: Development and Flood Risk. Much attention is drawn by flooding from high water levels in rivers. There are, however a number of other flood risks that may affect development should be considered:
- fluvial flooding
- from the sea
- flooding from estuaries/watercourses affected by tidelocking
- groundwater flooding
- overland flow flooding
- flooding from artificial drainage systems
- flooding due to infrastructure failure
We apply a staged approach to site-specific flood risk assessments, in line with current good practive guidance on the carrying out of Flood Risk Assessments.
We would be delighted to discuss our approach and how it applies to your project in further detail. Please send us an email on paul.giesberg@planningforsustainability.co.uk to a request a proposal.
